*Climbing Out the Grave* is the product of my struggle and pain, my way of seeing beauty and creating joy out of some of the ugliest situations in life.
It's easy to be positive when everything in life is going well, but it's hard to stay positive when everything seems to be going wrong.
Taking Ownership:
*Climbing Out the Grave* is about taking ownership of your life by accepting that you are where you are because of your thoughts and actions, not because of anyone else.
You take ownership so that you can take control of your life, understanding that if you got yourself into this, you have to get yourself out of this.
Digging Deep:
And that's it—the rest is just doing whatever it takes until you succeed and not quitting before the finish line. It's about putting everything on the line and giving it all that you have. In those moments when you feel like you have nothing left, you have to dig deep into your soul and motivate and encourage yourself.
Living the Struggle:
*Climbing Out the Grave* is filled with poems, song lyrics, and positive affirmations, but it is more than just positive self-talk.
These words were spoken from the point of view of a person who was in the struggle, not someone who was living a positive and happy lifestyle. What I mean is waking up every day to this struggle—bills, sickness of the body and mind, and even going outside and seeing garbage and violence in your neighborhood. And through it all, you still believe that you can succeed.
Finding Strength:
I called this *Climbing Out the Grave* because I felt like I was just digging myself a big hole with all my problems, struggles, and negativity caused by my own doing and the lifestyle that I chose. But then I also realized that if the lifestyle I was living got me to the situation that I didn't want to be in, doing the opposite would get me out.
I looked around and there was no one there—just me. On the nights and days when I didn't know what was next for me, all I could do was encourage myself to keep moving forward and not look back with the idea that I have come too far to turn back now. So I have to see it through, and if I don't, then a lot of people will be affected besides me. But if I do, then a lot of people will be affected besides me as well.
So quitting is not an option. The only thing that I can control is myself, my thoughts, and my actions, and I just have to get myself prepared for whatever may come my way. I have to be strong physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I speak these words not to stay positive, but to stay focused on my goal and to not let any negativity seep into my brain. When problems come my way, I will deal with them, but I won't stay stuck on them. I will use them as stepping stones to get me to the next level and continuously elevate until I climb out the grave.
